Our favorite city on the Neckar is rightly considered one of the most popular travel desti­na­tions in all of Europe. And it has a lot to offer to its visitors!

But not only the town Heidelberg, also the area around offers a lot to its vistors: Experience a relaxing break with a hike or bike tour on Mount Königs­stuhl, get to know the nearby Pfalz (Palatinate) or the Odenwald (Odenwald Forest), enjoy the sun during a boat trip on the river Neckar, visit the Schwet­zingen Castle with its picturesque park or one the numerous castles, churches and historic monas­teries in the Heidelberg area.

With its small, romantic lanes, the Bismarck-Square  as the hub of the public transport network, the University Square, the Market-Square with the Church of the Holy Spirit, the City Hall, the  Grain Market and the Karl’s‑Square  Heidelberg’s old town is one of the biggest attrac­tions in town.

The baroque Karl-Theodor-Bridge (better known as the Old Bridge), one of the most famous sights in town, die als eine der bekann­testen Sehens­wür­dig­keiten in Heidelberg gilt, connects the old town with the opposite Neuen­heimer banks of the river Neckarufer.

Heidelberg Castle is the epitome of German Roman­ticism and probably the most famous ruin in the world.For centuries the residence of the Palatinate Electors and destroyed by war and natural forces, the Heidelberg Castle with its Hortus Palatinus Castle Garden is one of the most important cultural monuments in Germany today.

Just a few footsteps from our suites entrance begins the Philosopher’s Trail, which leads up to the Heili­genberg in a steep climb that meanders through the streets of Neuenheim.

Once at the top, you will be rewarded, like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Clemens von Brentano and Josef von Eichen­dorff, with an unfor­gettably beautiful view of Heidelberg, the castle and the sun-kissed Neckar Valley.

Even away from the well-known Heidelberg sights, there are places in town that you absolutely must have seen on a trip to Heidelberg.

The Neckar­wiese, which is only a few meters from our suites, is the largest inner-city green space in Heidelberg, right on the north bank of the Neckar

There’s a lot of hustle and bustle here, especially in summer:

The Heidelberg citizens use it as a place to relax and as a venue for a large number of events, such as the annual Heidelberg rowing regatta in May, the Heidelberg Triathlon in August or the Children’s Theater Festival in October.

The event Leben­diger Neckar, where many Heidelberg clubs present themselves, attracts numerous visitors to the Neckar­wiese year by year.

Our Tip:

Enjoy Heidelberg’s almost mediter­ranean climate with a glass of wine and a delicious picnic on the Neckar meadow.

Every­thing you need can be found in the shops and restau­rants in the immediate vicinity of the luxury suites building.

Explore Heidelberg and the Heidelberg area on a boat trip on the Neckar.

The ‘Weiße Flotte’ offers  numerous excur­sions on the rivers Neckar and Rhine.  You can choose between a large selection of regular excur­sions or enjoy the gentle waves of the Neckar water on one of the many themed and party trips.

The Heidelberg Castle Illumi­nation, during which the castle is immersed in an impressive, myste­rious glow of fire, takes place every year in June, July and September on a total of three evenings.

It is an attraction for numerous visitors, who enjoy the incom­pa­rably beautiful atmosphere of the subse­quent fireworks along the Neckar until late in the evening.

Our very personal tip: In the evening hours, do your laps on the ice rink on Karls­platz in front of the romantic castle backdrop and then enjoy the contem­plative Advent season with a hot spiced wine or a punch of fire tongs and a relaxing walk through the old town

If you would like to get to know very special inhabi­tants of Heidelberg, who you will probably never see either in the old town or at Heidelberg Castle, we recommend a visit to the Heidelberg Zoo: There, over 160 different animal species from all over the world invite young and old on an exciting journey of discovery

Watch the maned seals at their daily feeding or discover with your family what Monts­errat troupials, blue-eared honeyeaters or binturongs are

And always keep your eyes open: Maybe the Sumatran female tiger Karis will step out of the dense bamboo thicket with her offspring and brush past you almost silently behind the glass wall of her enclosure.

If you prefer plants to animals, we recommend a visit to the Botanical Garden, which is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world and is home to a unique botanical protection and research collection.

Away from the well-known sights that are always new to explore, there are numerous hidden places in Heidelberg that will make your stay in what is probably Germany’s most beautiful city unfor­gettable. Did you know that there are two collec­tions of different exotic tree species in the Heidelberg city forest? Go on a discovery tour on the circular paths through the Heidelberg arboretum and let yourself be impressed by the size of the sequoia trees at the jump height. An exotic forest landscape with numerous gingko trees awaits you at the Speyrer Hof, whose Far Eastern ambience will surely enchant you.

Our very personal tip: If you are planning your visit to Heidelberg in the spring months, we recommend driving a few kilometers north of the city.

The Bergstrasse Blossom Hiking Trail begins in the munici­pality of Dossenheim, offering its visitors a unique blossom and landscape experience on more than 35 kilometers of hiking trail.

EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN

The Rhine-Neckar region also has a lot to offer for children: numerous swimming pools, thermal baths and fun pools and quarry ponds, a large selection of playgrounds, the fairytale paradise amusement park on the König­stuhl and the Holiday Park in Haßloch, the Heidelberg Zoo, and several animal parks in the vicinity as well as the Felsenmeer (Sea of Rocks) nature park.

HEIDELBERG AS A PARADISE FOR SPORT ENTHUSIASTS

Die Rhine ‑Neckar-Region is also a true paradise for sports fans: Soccer Premier League games can be viewed in nearby Hoffenheim, the Mannheim SAP Arena is home to the well-known Adler Mannheim ice hockey team and the Rhein-Neckar-Löwen handball team, and the basketball games of the MLP Academics Heidelberg can be seen in the newly built SNP Dome in Heidelberg be visited.

The Hocken­heimring, world-famous among motor­sport fans, is also only a stone’s throw away from Heidelberg.

CULTURE

In the UNESCO city of literature, Heidelberg awaits you with a diverse selection of successful and top-class cultural events, such as e.g. the Heidelberg Spring, Enjoy Jazz, the Heidelberg Literature Days, the Metro­polink street art festival and many other festivals, vernis­sages and concerts.

In spring, not only does the Neckar Valley bloom in a fairytale way, but the inter­na­tional classical music festival Heidel­berger Frühling also invites you to visit Heidelberg with over 100 events in March and April.

In fall, the Heidelberg autumn street festival, with its arts and crafts market and live music on various stages, attracts numerous people to Heidelberg year after year. The street festival stretches over 1.5 kilometers from the beginning to the end of Heidelberg’s pedestrian zone.

Year after year, the inter­na­tional jazz festival Enjoy Jazz offers its more than 20,000 visitors a variety of varied and top-class events in the entire metro­po­litan region.

The Heidelberg Literature Days in June each year are among the highlights of cultural life in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar metro­po­litan region. Visitors can not only look forward to a varied program of events, but also readings by numerous renowned German-speaking and inter­na­tional authors.

Metro­polink is a festival for urban art, where renowned graffiti artists transform house facades and thus contribute to the beauti­fi­cation of the Heidelberg cityscape. A large selection of concerts, workshops and film scree­nings also take place as part of the Metro­polink Festival in the summer months.

There is a large selection of small and large cinemas and theaters in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar metro­po­litan region.

Heidelberg offers its visitors a large selection of museums and exhibi­tions, such as e.g. the Carl Bosch Museum, the Kurpfäl­zi­sches Museum, the German Pharmacy Museum, the Prinzhorn Collection and the Body Worlds exhibition.

The exhibition The Mystery of BANKSY – A Genius Mind has also been taking place in Heidelberg since May 1, 2021. Works by the world-famous artist Banksy are on display and will attract numerous visitors to Heidelberg.
